Saving History, One Building at a Time
April 21, 2014
Triple Whipple Bridge-1878
Welcome to our new website “History in Your Own Backyard“. Please check out our “About Us” page for how we arrived at this point in time.
In a nutshell, we are losing historic structures (Buildings, bridges, tunnels, barns, walkways, railroads, homes, etc.) at a pretty alarming rate. Most of you probably don’t notice the amount of demolition going on as you drive down the road everyday. However, this new website will be a clearinghouse for the structures still standing and the ones we’ve recently lost, not just in the tri-state area but across the nation.
Our goal is to bring an awareness to these structures before we lose what we have left. We plan to do this thru pictures and videos here on this site and on YouTube.
Many of you reading this have participated in our unique road rally events and have seen the “Points of Interest” we highlight in each event. However, most of you have never stopped to actually view these sites, talk to the owners and take tours of these unique buildings scattered across the area.
Our short but informative videos will give you an in depth view of these buildings giving you an armchair tour of sites you probably will never get a chance to view on your own.
Sit back and enjoy the ride! This will be my pleasure to bring you information about some of the least known historic sites in our area.
Travel slowly, stop often.
