On our way to St. Louis we took a detour thru Sumner, Illinois in Lawrence County where we found the Shirley Creek Bridge built in 1924. The two span Pony Truss bridge is now closed but sits on the old State Route 250 alignment. It sags a little in the middle but is perfectly safe to walk on. I’m sure you could still drive a car over it if the barriers were removed. Not too many of these older two spans left but definitely one worth seeing if you’re in the area.
